WORKSHOP: The 8 Limbs of Yoga

Would you like to learn about the history of yoga, deepen your yoga practice, and cultivate a still mind?

Please join us for a workshop on the 8 Limbs of Yoga, led by April Anderson.

We’ll study the traditional and historical practice of yoga, which includes an introduction to yoga philosophy and the 8-fold path. You’ll also participate in breathing techniques and guided meditations to integrate into your daily life.

How much are you shouldering?

Warm up with shoulder releases that work your arms in all directions — flexion, extension, adduction and abduction — then practice poses geared to opening your chest for more breath and releasing long-held tension in your neck and shoulders. Add strengthening poses to increase your awareness of how to engage the muscles in this region in a balanced and harmonious way. Some of the poses we will practice include cow facing pose (gomukhasana), eagle pose (garudasana), variation of the four-limb staff pose (chataranga) and much more.

Discover how your breath can help support your core, how to practice the principles of opposition for greater spinal length and stability, and explore the concept of efficiency of movement to reduce fatigue and improve stamina in your yoga practice and in your life. Super charge your practice with downward facing dog variations (adho mukha svanasana), tree pose (vrkasana), bridge pose (setu bandha sarvangasana), and side plank pose (vasisthasana), among others.
